Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas Jury Duty Scam Alert

Harrisburg, PA, January 11, 2018– The Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas is again issuing an alert about a scammer who is targeting residents. The caller claims the call recipient owes a fine for failing to appear for jury duty. The caller indicates that the individual may pay the fine by some form of gift card and providing the number over the phone.

Authentic jury duty notifications, including failure to appear notices, are almost exclusively delivered by mail. You may receive a phone call from Dauphin County Court Administration to reschedule, but would never be asked for payment in any form over the telephone. In addition, court staff would never ask for your social security number.

Court officials also note that some scammers have the capability of manipulating caller ID so that the display appears to be from a County office or number, but if you feel as though this is a scam or error, please call Court Administration at 717-780-6630 to confirm the status of the request.
