Dauphin County Prison inmate suffers fatal medical event

HARRISBURG, PA (August 29, 2020) – A 50-year-old man, Jimmy King Jr., who was incarcerated at Dauphin County Prison was found minimally responsive in his cell several days ago and immediately taken to Hershey Medical Center. He died at 7 a.m. today as a result of a medical event. 

King was incarcerated for retail theft, escape and an accident involving damage to auto/property.

Forty-six-year-old Herbert Tilghman, who was incarcerated at the prison for possession with intent to manufacture, collapsed and suffered a fatal medical event on August 20 while receiving treatment. Staff immediately administered first aid and called EMS. Autopsy results are pending the outcome of the toxicology test, according to the county coroner.

In light of these recent events, the Dauphin County Prison Board of Inspectors are launching an independent medical review of policies and procedures.
