Northern Dauphin Human Services Center offers free prom gowns, tuxes, suits and accessories as part of Project Prom Wear

ELIZABETHVILLE, PA (January 10, 2020) – Dauphin County’s Northern Dauphin Human Services Center (NDHSC) is once again offering free prom gowns and accessories to high school students who cannot otherwise afford them as part of Project Prom Wear. Starting this year, the center is seeking donations of men’s tuxes, suits and shoes.

“We want to be a resource for struggling families,” said Commissioner George P. Hartwick, III, who oversees the county’s Human Services Department and the NDHSC. “For the past 11 years, this program has given local students the opportunity to attend their proms and build special memories.”

The NDHSC accepts donations of new or gently used prom gowns, tuxes, suits, shoes, purses and accessories throughout the year.

“The success of Project Prom Wear rests on the generosity of donors who make this program possible,” said Chairman Jeff Haste. “Last year, this program helped 60 local teens.”

Beginning in mid-January, dozens of gowns and tuxes in a variety of sizes and styles will be available. Teens who are interested in getting prom wear can visit the center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays or call the center to schedule an appointment.

“Thanks to this annual program and the many generous people who have donated items, teens who may not otherwise be able to afford going to prom will now be able to attend,” said Commissioner Mike Pries.

Residents who want to help local students can also contact the school district’s guidance counselor to sponsor the cost of prom tickets.

The NDHSC is located at 295 State Dr. in Elizabethville.  For more information, or to schedule an appointment, please call 717-905-2700 or visit www.DauphinCounty.org.
