Dauphin County PrisonÂ
The Dauphin County Prison currently has several active programs run by volunteer groups and organizations. These opportunities range from religious organizations to reading and writing classes to special agency sessions. Volunteers are encouraged to work with these existing groups when deciding to work at the prison. There are also competitive internship positions available to college and university students.

Programs
Volunteers work with a variety of different groups who have programs set up at the prison. These range from church groups doing bible studies and worship, others teaching reading and writing classes, and some agencies and self help groups holding sessions. Volunteers need to work with existing programs.

Internships
Internships are available with the Dauphin County Prison for students of local colleges and universities. Under the supervision of the Community Connections Coordinator student interns will be assigned to the Treatment Department at the Dauphin County Prison. The student interns will have the opportunity to work directly with Treatment Specialists and the inmate population. Interns will observe and participate in a variety of job duties i.e. intake interviewing of newly committed inmates, individual and group counseling, case working, parole processing, classification, observing in house inmate disciplinary hearing, and learning the over all logistics of the correctional system.
Amount of time required: Typically at least a semester long internship. 20-40 hours a week.

Major studies in: Criminal Justice, Behavioral Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Social Work (Other majors may be considered on an individual basis).
- All student interns must successfully pass a criminal background investigation, urinalysis, and complete an orientation prior to beginning internship.
- All student interns must be enrolled at an accredited College or University.
- All student interns must provide a letter from the college or university granting permission to participate in Dauphin County Prison Internship Program.
- All student interns must be 21 years old prior to beginning internship.
- All student interns must submit a resume/cover letter.
