Fiddlers Elbow Road Bridge in Derry/Lower Swatara Twps. Re-Opened After Replacement Project

Fiddlers Elbow Bridge

The Fiddlers Elbow Road bridge, which crosses Swatara Creek in Derry and Lower Swatara townships, is back open to traffic.

The bridge was closed in March for superstructure replacement.

Some completion work is expected in the spring, but the bridge will be open for the winter.

Dauphin County Commissioners approved work on the county-owned structure to prolong its use and prevent it from becoming load-restricted.

“Maintaining Dauphin County’s roads and bridges are top priorities,” Dauphin County Commissioner Chad Saylor said. “The county bridge bundling program benefits residents and commuters every day.”

The Fiddlers Elbow Bridge work was estimated at $2.2 million, funded with local use funds ($5 vehicle registration fees).

Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc., Dauphin County’s bridge engineer, handled the work.
