Dauphin County Prison offers free video inmate visitation program and cancels next Prison Board meeting as a precaution

 HARRISBURG, PA (March 20, 2020) – As Dauphin County Prison continues to take precautions to ensure the safety of staff and inmates from COVID-19, the facility is continuing to suspend all visits for inmates until further notice.

While visitation is suspended, Dauphin County Prison is providing a free video visitation service so that inmates and their loved ones can keep in contact.

In conjunction with the county’s video visitation vender GTL, the facility will now provide 15 minutes of free video visitation per week effective immediately. The 15 minutes will renew every Sunday at midnight for four weeks. The 15 minutes can be used at the inmate’s discretion (e.g., one 15-minute video visit, or three visits of 5 minutes.)

Details of the program are as follows:

  • All persons incarcerated at the time free weekly video visit is offered will be provided 15 minutes of free video visit time each week.
  • The 15 minutes of video visit time renews every Sunday at midnight and is available to be used at your discretion each week. 
  • If the free weekly visit time is not used, no credit will be given.

Additionally, the Prison Board of Inspectors has canceled the next monthly public meeting that was scheduled for Wednesday, March 25, 2020.

The county will keep the community notified on any new developments related to COVID-19 and the continuously changing developments.
