Information/Referral and Emergency Assistance

The Center provides Information/services to any individual needing assistance. The Information and Referral Coordinator will meet/interview the individual to identify the specific area of need. Problems and/or needs will be discussed and information will be provided. If necessary a referral to the appropriate agency will be made for direct services to be rendered to the individual.

Food Bank

The Human Service Center also operates and maintains a food bank, which can be utilized by anyone, based on criteria and emergency need. Special food programs are coordinated through the Center during Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. (based on community support)

Forms and Applications

The following forms and applications are also provided through Information and Referral(Assistance to complete the applications is available):

  • County Assistance applications (cash, medical and food stamps)

  • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program applications (LIHEAP)

  • Pace Card applications

  • Property Tax/Rent Rebate Forms

  • Social Security Card applications

  • Reduced Vehicle Registration forms

  • On-Track (PPL Utilities)

Operation Help

This program is designed to assist customers of PPL Utilities who are having hardships in maintaining their accounts and are in jeopardy of having their service terminated.

Emergency Assistance Program

This program is designed to assist with food, medications, non-food items, etc., and is strictly based on availability of funds, lack of resources of the individual, and determination of emergent need.

Christmas Program

This program is designed to assist families obtain toys and gifts for their children.

Fees and Costs

There are no fees or costs for utilizing the Information and Referral services at the Human Service Center . However, once a referral is made to a specific agency, a determination may be made by the agency that may require a fee for services rendered. No one will be denied services based on inability to make payment.

Service Area

All residents in the Northern Dauphin County area, north of Peter's mountain to the Northumberland and Schuylkill County lines are eligible to request information and referral services and other human services provided by the participating agencies without regard to sex, race, religion, handicap or national origin.
