The Dauphin County RADAR Training Institute presents the Search Institute's 40 Development Asset Training. This exciting program puts energy into action. It allows the community to become educated and empowered. The goal of the 40 Asset Training is to achieve long term, positive consequences for children and youth by building strengths in, for and with young people. The Dauphin County Training Institute has made available 2 separate trainings. The first training is an introductory presentation on the framework of the 40 developmental assets kids needs to succeed. The second training is a complete workshop on Asset Building in Communities.

The Training Institute provides a 1-2 hour presentation that introduces Search Institute's message to interested communities and organizations. This presentation will help the participants:

  • Understand the concept of developmental assets as it contrasts with the more common problem-focused approach.

  • Understand the developmental assets, know why they are important, and know how others are using them.

  • Understand and apply the categories of developmental assets to their own experiences and perceptions.

  • Learn from stories and concrete examples of community-based asset building and consider how to apply them to their own efforts.

  • Accept the challenge of carrying the asset-building approach into their organization or life.

Who Should Attend: Anyone interested in children and youth in your community including community leaders, educators, religious leaders, parents, youth, business people, law enforcement.

This all-day workshop provides an overview of what Search Institute and its asset champions in the field have found is needed to launch, support, strengthen, and sustain a multi-sector asset-building initiative. As result of this training participants will:

  • Understand and be able to describe the developmental asset framework and its contribution to creating an asset-rich community.

  • Understand the role of leaders in organizing, supporting and sustaining community-wide asset building.

  • Understand the long-term cultural shifts essential to community change and a model of change that can guide communities in their asset-building work.

  • Recognize how assets can be built in various community sectors.

  • Recognize where their community is in the process of change and where they need to take action.

  • Be familiar with resources available to them and have a sense of confidence that they can move asset building forward.

  • Develop and commit to a plan for next steps.

Who Should Attend: People representing several sectors within the community or teams from multiple communities. Participants should be committed to being involved in an asset-building initiative in their community. This training is recommended only for people with prior knowledge about developmental assets
