Homeless Management Information System

Homeless Management Information System

HMIS is a computerized data collection system designed to capture client information over an extended period of time. The system will allow professionals within the Dauphin County community to work with the homeless giving the ability to analyze data on the characteristics and service needs of men, women, and children experiencing homelessness.

The HMIS project is overseen by the Human Services Director's Office in collaboration with the Capital Area Coalition on Homelessness (CACH) a number of volunteer organizations, comprised of Dauphin County, City of Harrisburg, United Way, Greater Harrisburg Foundation and various service providers. The purpose is to develop and deliver a cooperative, coordinated and inclusive system of high quality services and shelter for the homeless. HMIS will help the homeless achieve self-sufficiency and other positive outcomes, which ultimately benefit both the homeless and our community.

Participating organizations include: Bethesda Mission, Brethren Transitional Housing, HELP (Christian Churches United), Dauphin County Human Services, Delta Housing, Shalom House, Dauphin County MH/MR Crisis Intervention, Grantville Community Outreach, Interfaith Family Shelter, Downtown Daily Bread, Salvation Army, Dauphin County Case Management, YWCA, Dauphin County Housing Authority and the Firm Foundation.

By implementing the Homeless Management Information System, data can be used to evaluate the needs of the Dauphin County community and to fill any missing gaps to create a better service system.
