"Ombudsman” is a Swedish word meaning citizen representative. In Pennsylvania, a Long - Term Care Ombudsman serves as a mediator who seeks to resolve complaints made by or on behalf of people who are consumers of long-term care services. The Ombudsman provides a way for people to voice their concerns and have their complaints addressed. The Ombudsman tries to work with all parties to resolve a problem. Ombudsman services may be used by residents of nursing, domiciliary and personal care homes regardless of age and by individuals receiving long-term care services in their home and community
The Vision Statement for the Ombudsman Program is to ‘Advocate for those who can’t, support those who can, and ensure all long-term care consumers live with dignity and respect.’
