The Dauphin County Work Release Center officially became a separate department on July 1st, 2007. It is a Community Corrections facility utilized by the Courts to incarcerated sentenced offenders in order to provide an opportunity for them to maintain previously secured or newly gained employment. Each offender pays rent equating to a considerable tax savings for Dauphin County residents. In addition, all offenders purchases their own food, are responsible for their own medical expenses, secures their own transportation, assist in the overall cleaning and maintenance of the facility and grounds, and live by strict rules of the program. The goal is to hold individuals accountable for their behavior while fostering their sense of responsibility for themselves and their families while preparing them for eventual re-entry into their communities.
Work Release residents provide upwards of 10,000 hours of community service annually to the community, conducting all types of beautification projects and maintenance tasks.
Director Miller is dedicated to providing the necessary impetus to ensure all incarcerated Work Release offenders have ample opportunity to obtain career enhancing employment, comply with court ordered stipulations and meet all of their fiscal obligations. This structure provides the offender with an opportunity to succeed and returns a productive human being back to society.
