Biography

Magisterial District Judge Ray Shugars was born in Shamokin, PA, graduated from St. Edwards High School in 1956 and attended Bloomsburg and West Chester State Teacher's Colleges.

M.D.J. Ray Shugars is the former owner of Coldway Refrigeration and was the elected Constable for Susquehanna Township. As a constable he was one of the founding fathers of the Capitol Area Constables Association, and in that capacity lobbied for the modernization of the constable fee bill in 1983. 

In February 1998, M.D.J. Shugars was installed as a life member in VFW Post 1718 Penbrook, being a Veteran of the U.S. Army with one tour of duty in Korea. M.D.J. Shugars belongs to numerous civic and fraternal organizations and attends the Holy Name of Jesus Church.

The Capital Area Constables Association voted MDJ Shugars "Man of the Year" in 1997.

From RT.22 (Walnut Street, Jonestown Rd): Traveling West, go to the intersection of Progress Avenue & Walnut Streets and make a right turn onto Progress Avenue. Traveling East, you will make a left turn at this intersection. Proceed to the 5th traffic light (Paxton Church Road) and make a left. Travel past the Brandywine Plaza parking lot on your left to Brandywine Drive. We are immediately past Brandywine on your left (2125 Paxton Church Road).

From I-81: If traveling I-81 North, take exit 69 (Progress Avenue), make a left at the light onto Progress Avenue and proceed to the 3rd traffic light (Paxton Church Road). If traveling I-81 South, take exit 69, make a left at the light onto Progress Avenue and proceed to the 2nd traffic light (Paxton Church Road). Make a left onto Paxton Church Road and proceed past the Brandywine Plaza parking lot on your left to Brandywine Drive. We are immediately past Brandywine Drive on your left (2125 Paxton Church Road).

From I-83: Take I-83 North to the 81/83 split, following I-81 South (to your left) at the split. Off I-81, take exit 69 (Progress Avenue) and make a left at the light onto Progress Avenue. Proceed to the 2nd traffic light (Paxton Church Road) and make a left onto Paxton Church Road. Go past the Brandywine Plaza parking lot on your left to Brandywine Drive. We are immediately past Brandywine Drive on your left (2125 Paxton Church Drive).

From the PA Turnpike (I-76): Travel to exit 19 (Harrisburg East) and follow the roads to I-83 North. Proceed on I-83 North to the 81/83 split, taking I-81 South (to your left) at the split. Off I-81, take exit 69 (Progress Avenue) and make a left at the onto Paxton Church Road. Go past the Brandywine Plaza parking lot on your left to Brandywine Drive. We are immediately past Brandywine Drive on your left (2125 Paxton Church Road).
