The Department of Public Welfare, also known as County Assistance Office is a State Department and can be reached at (717) 787-2324. Assistance provided includes: financial, housing, employment, medical, food stamps, energy, etc.

 

Where can I go to file a complaint about my employer?

This would be handled by the Pennsylvania State Human Relations Department, which can be reached at (717) 787-4410.

 

How can I find out about employment opportunities with Dauphin County?

The county website has an employment opportunities page, which lists vacant positions. The county Personnel Department can be reached at (717) 780-6230.

 

I was kicked out of my home and have no place to stay. What can I do?

The Department of Public Welfare may be able to assist. Their number is (717) 787-2324. For Emergency Housing or Shelter information you can contact Help Ministries at (717) 238-2851.

 

How do I report Child Abuse?

Call the Children & Youth Office at (717) 780-7200.

 

Where do I go for assistance on my heating bills?

HELP 238-2851, and LIHEAP 1-800-692-7462, 787-8750 and 787-1935.

 

I am 60 years old, where can I get help?

The Area Agency on Aging is where you would go for persons 60 years of age and older at 780-6130. The Area Agency on Aging offers a variety of services like Care Management, Adult Day Care, Home delivered meals, Legal Services, Protective Services, Personal Care, etc.

 

Where do I go for assistance for food?

For Central PA Food Bank call 564-1700 or Upper Dauphin Human Services, Inc. call 896-3426. For the Human Service Director’s Office call 780-6288.

 

How can I find about a specific service I need?

You can call Contact Helpline 652-4400 or 1-888-596-4447 a referral and active listening agency. You can also call Human Services Directors Office at 780-6296.
