Mentoring Matters
Make a difference in a young person’s life. Become a Dauphin County mentor.
What is Dauphin County’s mentoring program?mentoring_medium_web.jpg

Throughout Dauphin County there are young people ranging in age from 8 to 21 years old who need the guidance and friendship of an adult mentor.

Dauphin County contracts with agencies that link mentors and mentees together and offer assistance in building mutually rewarding experiences.

If you can spare an hour a week, you can make a lasting impact on a young person’s life.

How can mentoring help?

Mentors can open a new world to young people and help them achieve…
  • Enhanced self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Better school performance and higher likelihood of graduating
  • Increased chance of pursuing higher education
  • Decreased chance of engaging in risky behavior, such as drug and alcohol use

Students who meet regularly with a mentor are 52% less likely than their peers to skip a day of school and 37% less likely to skip a class.

Youth who meet regularly with a mentor are 46% less likely than their peers to start using illegal drugs and 27% less likely to start drinking (Source: www.mentoring.org)
