Part-Time Positions ​

​Application Process:  Interested persons must complete a Dauphin County Application for Employment, available from the Dauphin County website.  The application may also be obtained from and must be submitted to the Department of Human Resources.

Persons wishing to apply for a posted Dauphin County Prison position should complete an Application for Prison Employment and submit it to the Dauphin County Department of Human Resources.

While Dauphin County does not inquire into an individual’s criminal history at the time of application, with the exception of Prison positions, certain convictions may disqualify an individual from a position.

The option to participate in Dauphin County’s Deferred Compensation Plan and Dauphin County’s Employee Assistance Program through Mazzitti and Sullivan is available to all employees from the start of their employment.

Public Safety $9.52
Dauphin County Department of Public Safety is currently accepting applications for the varied shift position of Part Time Security Officer.  An employee in this position will be responsible for controlling or surveying assigned County structures and premises; operating authorized electronic, electrical, and electrode-mechanical security devices in accordance with established policy and procedure; completing standardized logs and reports; documenting and investigating events observed or reported; and making appropriate notifications within and without County government.  Incumbent will attend mandated instruction classes, establish and maintain associated certifications, and report to the shift supervisor daily. 
 
Minimum Education, Experience and Training Requirements: Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program. At least one (1) year of security experience, preferred.  May possess or acquire the following certifications: Act 235 Lethal Weapons, CPR/First Aid, and Passive Restraint Training.  The qualified candidate must be at least 18 years of age by the date of hire.

Dauphin County Facility Maintenance is currently accepting applications for the part-time, evening shift position of Part Time Custodian (Downtown).  An employee in this position cleans and maintains assigned areas, buildings, facilities and grounds within the County’s downtown complex. 
 
Minimum Education, Experience and Training Requirements: Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program, plus 6-12 months working experience in a custodial environment, preferred.  A valid driver’s license and positive driving record a plus.

Prison $20.00
Dauphin County Prison is currently accepting applications for the part-time, varied shift position of Part Time Prison Teacher.  An employee in this position is responsible for professional work in remedial, vocational and continuing education.  An employee in this position plans and delivers instructions; identifies resources; administers diagnostic and achievement tests; evaluates student progress; and makes appropriate recommendations consequent to same.  Ten (10)-hour and twenty (20)-hour per week positions are available.  The incumbent reports to the Education Supervisor and ultimately to the Deputy Warden for Treatment.
  
Minimum Education, Experience and Training Requirements: Graduation from an accredited college or university, with major coursework in elementary, secondary, special, or adult education or a related field; one year of experience in education; and a valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate with Act 48 compliance.  Advanced coursework in corrections education may be substituted at the rate of 30 academic credits per year of professional experience.  The qualified candidate must be at least 21 years of age by the date of hire.  A favorable criminal background check is required.

Dauphin County Controller’s Office is currently accepting applications for the positions of Part Time Summer Intern.  Internships with the Dauphin County Controller will provide undergraduate or graduate students with experience in the day-to-day operation of the Controller’s office.  Interns will assist staff in daily tasks and help complete special projects that the Controller’s office has undertaken in 2017.  Depending upon the intern’s interest, ability, and experience, internships can focus on a specific area of the Controller’s office, including, but not limited to, administration, accounts payable, auditing, accounting, pensions and investments. Mental Health/Intellectual Disabilities$15.70 or 16.76
Dauphin County Mental Health/Intellectual Disabilities is currently accepting applications for a part-time Caseworker 1 or 2 position in the Crisis Intervention Program.  This is a position within a 24-hour emergency Crisis Intervention Program designed to provide immediate responses to a wide variety of life crisis situations, including local disasters, for persons in Dauphin County.  Incumbent will work a variable schedule, including nights and weekends, which consists of a minimum of five and a maximum of nine eight hour shifts per pay period. The incumbent must provide a range of crisis services over the phone, in the office, and in a variety of community settings such as emergency rooms, police stations, private residences, public places, employment sites, nursing homes and schools.  Consumers include all ages with special emphasis on young persons, the elderly, minorities, and persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses or intellectual disabilities.  The incumbent must be proficient in or demonstrate the ability to learn the following skills and abilities: mental health/psychosocial assessment, evaluation of risk for dangerous behaviors to self/others, crisis counseling, a working knowledge of DSM IV-V diagnoses, safety procedures, rules and regulations pertaining to mental health services and commitments, an ability to provide thorough documentation and record keeping using the program’s EMR system, disposition planning, knowledge of community human services programs, ethics for professional human services staff, ability to communicate orally and in writing, and ability to develop culturally sensitive rapport with diverse populations.  This is a union position.
 
Caseworker 1- Minimum Education, Experience and Training Requirements:  A bachelor’s degree in a human services major such as sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology or other related social sciences.
Caseworker 2 - Minimum Education, Experience and Training Requirements:  A bachelor’s degree in a human services major such as sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology or other related social sciences and one year of professional casework experience in a public or private social services agency. 
Other Requirements:  A copy of either an official or unofficial college transcript(s) along with a resume must be attached to the application.  Applicants who do not provide these items will not be interviewed.  A valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and positive driving record, a favorable criminal background check, and favorable child abuse and FBI clearances are required.
