Part-Time Positions ​

​Application Process:  Interested persons must complete a Dauphin County Application for Employment, available from the Dauphin County website.  The application may also be obtained from and must be submitted to the Department of Human Resources.

Persons wishing to apply for a posted Dauphin County Prison position should complete an Application for Prison Employment and submit it to the Dauphin County Department of Human Resources.

While Dauphin County does not inquire into an individual’s criminal history at the time of application, with the exception of Prison positions, certain convictions may disqualify an individual from a position. For a listing of offenses that prohibit individuals from holding positions in certain departments, please see our Prohibited Offenses Listing. Individuals having convictions in these categories may wish to apply for positions with less restrictions.

The option to participate in Dauphin County’s Deferred Compensation Plan and Dauphin County’s Employee Assistance Program through Mazzitti and Sullivan is available to all employees from the start of their employment.

Department of Public Safety$13.02
Dauphin County Department of Public Safety is currently accepting applications for the varied shift position of Part Time Telecommunicator Trainee.  An employee in this position will be responsible for processing 911 calls, providing emergency medical, fire and police pre-arrival and/or post-dispatch instructions and dispatching police, fire, and EMS.  He/she receives and directs telephone, radio and data communications, collecting pertinent information and dispatching units using radio and computer-aided dispatch system; determines priority, nature and location of emergency and non-emergency calls and status of units on and off assignment; maintains complete and accurate records, logs and reports on calls for a variety of services; operates a variety of teletype, computer, and radio equipment, monitors equipment for correct functioning, making record checks, computer entries, confirming and updating status of warrants; operates various types of communications equipment in a calm and competent manner including digital encoding alarm or units/personnel and a Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD).
 
Minimum Education, Experience and Training Requirements:  Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program; one year of experience working with radio and computer equipment, preferably in the field of law enforcement, fire or medical dispatching.  Within one (1) year of employment, employee must successfully complete the National Academy’s Emergency Fire Dispatch Protocol System, Emergency Medical Dispatch Protocol System, Emergency Police Dispatch Protocol System and Emergency Telecommunicator Course. A valid driver’s license and positive driving record and favorable criminal background check are required.

Dauphin County Prison is currently accepting applications for the part-time, varied shift position of Part Time Prison Teacher.  An employee in this position is responsible for professional work in remedial, vocational and continuing education.  An employee in this position plans and delivers instructions; identifies resources; administers diagnostic and achievement tests; evaluates student progress; and makes appropriate recommendations consequent to same.  Ten (10)-hour and twenty (20)-hour per week positions are available.  The incumbent reports to the Education Supervisor and ultimately to the Deputy Warden for Treatment.
  
Minimum Education, Experience and Training Requirements: Graduation from an accredited college or university, with major coursework in elementary, secondary, special, or adult education or a related field; one year of experience in education; and a valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate with Act 48 compliance.  Advanced coursework in corrections education may be substituted at the rate of 30 academic credits per year of professional experience.  The qualified candidate must be at least 21 years of age by the date of hire.  A favorable criminal background check is required.
