Part-Time Positions ​

​Application Process:  Interested persons must complete a Dauphin County Application for Employment, available from the Dauphin County website.  The application may also be obtained from and must be submitted to the Department of Human Resources.

Persons wishing to apply for a posted Dauphin County Prison position should complete an Application for Prison Employment and submit it to the Dauphin County Department of Human Resources.

While Dauphin County does not inquire into an individual’s criminal history at the time of application, with the exception of Prison positions, certain convictions may disqualify an individual from a position.

The option to participate in Dauphin County’s Deferred Compensation Plan and Dauphin County’s Employee Assistance Program through Mazzitti and Sullivan is available to all employees from the start of their employment.

Commissioners' Office $7.69
Dauphin County Commissioners’ Office is currently accepting applications for the positions of Part Time County Government Intern.  Internships with the Dauphin County Commissioners will provide undergraduate or graduate students with experience in the day-to-day operation of county government.  Interns will work with the Commissioners on special projects and with the Chief Clerk to assist with planning and preparation for the weekly public meetings and research issues to aid in developing County policy.  Depending upon the intern’s interest, ability, and experience, internships can focus on a specific area of county government, including, but not limited to, administration, communications, prison and corrections, economic development, human services, and criminal justice.  Please visit www.dauphincounty.org to learn more about Dauphin County government.

Dauphin County Department of Public Safety is currently accepting applications for the varied shift position of Part Time Security Officer.  An employee in this position will be responsible for controlling or surveying assigned County structures and premises; operating authorized electronic, electrical, and electrode-mechanical security devices in accordance with established policy and procedure; completing standardized logs and reports; documenting and investigating events observed or reported; and making appropriate notifications within and without County government.  Incumbent will attend mandated instruction classes, establish and maintain associated certifications, and report to the shift supervisor daily. 
 
Minimum Education, Experience and Training Requirements: Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program. At least one (1) year of security experience, preferred.  May possess or acquire the following certifications: Act 235 Lethal Weapons, CPR/First Aid, and Passive Restraint Training.  The qualified candidate must be at least 18 years of age by the date of hire.

Dauphin County Parks and Recreation is currently accepting applications for the part-time position of Part Time Environmental Educator.  An employee in this position provides environmental education programming for the County Park system.  He/she plans, develops and implements environmental education and recreation programs; develops interpretive displays; establishes and maintains liaisons with community service organizations and educational resources.  He/she collaborates with and supervises volunteers, interns and community groups; organizes and deploys same in projects of research, construction, presentation, preservation and upkeep of the parks.  This position requires a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends, as necessary.
  
Minimum Education, Experience and Training Requirements: Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program; a bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation, Environmental Education, Environmental Science or a related field, preferred.  Two years of experience in environmental education, environmental science and/or nature center administration or nature center operation is required.  Or, any equivalent combination of education, work experience and training.  A favorable criminal background check and favorable child abuse and FBI clearances are required.

Dauphin County Prison is currently accepting applications for the part-time, varied shift position of Part Time Prison Teacher.  An employee in this position is responsible for professional work in remedial, vocational and continuing education.  An employee in this position plans and delivers instructions; identifies resources; administers diagnostic and achievement tests; evaluates student progress; and makes appropriate recommendations consequent to same.  Ten (10)-hour and twenty (20)-hour per week positions are available.  The incumbent reports to the Education Supervisor and ultimately to the Deputy Warden for Treatment.
  
Minimum Education, Experience and Training Requirements: Graduation from an accredited college or university, with major coursework in elementary, secondary, special, or adult education or a related field; one year of experience in education; and a valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate with Act 48 compliance.  Advanced coursework in corrections education may be substituted at the rate of 30 academic credits per year of professional experience.  The qualified candidate must be at least 21 years of age by the date of hire.  A favorable criminal background check is required.

Dauphin County Social Services for Children & Youth is currently accepting applications for the part-time
position of Part Time Social Casework Intern.  This is a position that will provide academic learning and practical experience for college or university level students.  Students will participate in formal and informal county and state training; casework assignments are limited in number and difficulty and are performed under close supervision.  The interns will engage in case management duties and will assist clients and families as necessary.  Students will gain experience in investigations, child placements, in-home services, and may provide court testimony.
 
Minimum Education, Experience, and Training Requirements: Enrollment as a full-time student in a bachelor’s degree program in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology or other related behavioral science, and completion of 75 credits, including completion of 15 credits in one of the listed majors.
 
Other Requirements:  A copy of either official or unofficial college transcript(s) along with a resume must be attached to the application.  Applicants who do not provide these items will not be interviewed.  A valid driver’s license and positive driving record, a favorable criminal background check and favorable child abuse and FBI clearances are required.  Working during non-traditional hours may at times be required.
