​Application Process:  Current employees must complete a Transfer Application and attach their resume.  Non-County employees must complete a Dauphin County Application for Employment. Applicants must attach transcripts or other required documentation evidencing qualifications for the position. Applications may be obtained from and must be submitted to the Department of Human Resources.

Persons wishing to apply for a posted Dauphin County Prison position should complete an Application for Prison Employment and submit it to the Dauphin County Department of Human Resources.

While Dauphin County does not inquire into an individual’s criminal history at the time of application, with the exception of Prison positions, certain convictions may disqualify an individual from a position. For a listing of offenses that prohibit individuals from holding positions in certain departments, please see our Prohibited Offenses Listing. Individuals having convictions in these categories may wish to apply for positions with less restrictions.

An excellent Dauphin County (County) paid benefit package is available to all full-time employees the month following 60 days of employment. The County pays 100% of the premium for the following:

Public Safety$13.02
Dauphin County Department of Public Safety is currently accepting applications for the full-time, varied shift position of Telecommunicator Trainee.  An employee in this position receives and dispatches 911, emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, fire and ambulance personnel, equipment and services.  He/she receives and directs telephone, radio and data communications, collecting pertinent information and dispatching units using radio and computer-aided dispatch system; determines priority, nature and location of emergency and non-emergency calls and status of units on and off assignment; maintains complete and accurate records, logs and reports on calls for a variety of services; operates a variety of teletype, computer, and radio equipment, monitors equipment for correct functioning, making record checks, computer entries, confirming and updating status of warrants; provides emergency medical, fire, and police pre-arrival and/or post-dispatch instructions; operates various types of communications equipment in a calm and competent manner including digital encoding alarm or units/personnel and a Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD).
 
Minimum Education, Experience and Training Requirements:  Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program; one year of experience working with radio and computer equipment, preferably in the field of law enforcement, fire or medical dispatching.  Within one (1) year of employment, successfully complete the National Academy’s Emergency Fire Dispatch Protocol System, Emergency Medical Dispatch Protocol System, Emergency Police Dispatch Protocol System and Emergency Telecommunicator Course.  A valid driver’s license and a favorable criminal background check are required.

Judicial Center$17.41
Dauphin County Judicial Center is currently accepting applications for the full-time, varied shift position of Judicial Center Officer.  An employee in this position ensures the efficient processing of detainees through Dauphin County’s centralized booking/processing center.  This is to include ensuring the safety and security of those persons detained and working closely with all law enforcement agencies to provide a timely transfer of custody to the Judicial Center.
 
Minimum Education, Experience and Training Requirements:  Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program; Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Science, Psychology, or related field preferred.  The qualified candidate must be at least 21 years of age by the date of hire and must acquire and maintain the following certifications:  CPR/First Aid, AED, Passive Restraint Training, Taser, Oleoresin Capsicum, PPCT- Restraint Training, and Fire Safety.  A favorable criminal background check is required.
