Emergency responders in Dauphin County are dispatched via radio transmissions. Dauphin County uses a P25 digital trunking system to provide communications with field responders. The telecommunicator transmits, using plain English, the required information necessary to perform the appropriate dispatch process. All communications between the telecommunicators and the field responders are made through this radio system. These are the transmissions one may hear when listening to a scanner.
Many field responders have Mobile Data Computers (MDCs) in their vehicles. The Mobile for Public Safety
system, which is an extension of Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, can be used to dispatch calls to units without a voice transmission on the radio.
