Victorian Tea and Greens Sale to Be Held at Fort Hunter

Monday, November 16, 2009

HARRISBURG (Nov. 16, 2009)- The public is invited to enjoy sweet and savory refreshments and shop for fresh evergreens at the Victorian Tea, to be held at Dauphin County’s Fort Hunter Mansion from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sun., Dec. 6.

In the style of a formal tea, guests can sip spiced tea and nibble tea sandwiches and petite sweets as they wander through the Mansion, viewing decorations of fresh greens and natural holiday trimmings.

In the Centennial Barn, visitors can wander through the Greens Sale, where they can purchase handmade boxwood topiaries, 12” boxwood “trees” for centerpieces, and mixed-green centerpiece rings. They can also enjoy a demonstration of open hearth cooking in the 1800s Tavern House summer kitchen, decorated for Christmas, where visitors will see chestnuts roasting and pies and plum pudding being made.

Admission to the Tea is $10 per person and will be received at the door. No reservations are necessary. All other events are free. Fort Hunter Mansion is located at 5300 N. Front St., six miles north of downtown Harrisburg.

While at Fort Hunter Park, visitors may also enjoy the Toy Train Exhibit, Craft Reunion and “Kids Only” Christmas Shop in the Centennial Barn and the Annual Festival of Trees in the Tavern House, all free of charge.

For more information call Fort Hunter at (717) 599-5751.
