Dauphin County Diversity Conference
Wildwood Conference Center at Harrisburg Area Community College
May 9, 2008 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM - Dauphin County Commissioners will host an all-day Diversity Conference that will include workshops on cultural diversity, physical and mental challenges, and spiritual differences. The county is sponsoring the event in collaboration with HACC's Office of Multicultural Affairs. The registration fee is $35, which includes materials, continental breakfast and lunch. Flower Walk: Jack in the Pulpit

May 18, 2008 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM - Join volunteer Cara Martinez-Williams for a Sunday afternoon flower walk at Wildwood Park. White continues to be the predominant flower color in this late spring walk. Some colors are beginning to appear. We should definitely see Jack in the Pulpits. Come learn the interesting facts about this flower and why it could also be known as "Jill in the Pulpit." Pre-registration is not required. No fee.

Canoe Wildwood by Moonlight
May 19, 2008 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM - Canoe Wildwood participants will learn how time has changed the late and the park. Paddle through the aquatic ecosystem for a close-up look at the inhabitants of the lake and marsh. Canoes, paddles and life jackets will be provided. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at the Turtle Parking Lot on Industrial Road in Harrisburg. The event takes place on May 19 and 20. Dauphin County's Blues and Wine Festival

May 31, 2008 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM - Dauphin County and the Blues Society of Central Pennsylvania bring together national blue recording artists some of the area's top wineries and a fine assortment of delicious foods for an evening of pure blues delight. Gates open at 12 noon. Enjoy the vibes of Acoustic Stew, Don Johnson Project, Big Tubba Mista, Krypon City Blues, Kelly Bell Band, Big Jack Johnson, the Cornlicker and Kelly Bell Band, one of Baltimore/Washington's most successful blues bands for years. For wine enthusiasts, wines from Adams County Winery, Four Springs Winery, Benigna's Creek Winery & Vineyard, Hunters Valley Winery, and Twin Valley Winery will be availabe for patrons to sample and purchase. No registration is required. General admission is $20 for advance tickets and $25 the day of the festival. Children 17 and under will be admitted free with adult supervision. June 3, 2008 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM - Early summer is a fun time to get to know wild foods. This session covers wild edible plant identifcation, poisonous plants, collection techinques, and preparation tips. Class and edible sampling will begin inside followed by an outside walk to discover edible, medicinal and poisonous plants. For ages 12 and up. Please bring a notebook. 21st Annual Carsonville Classic Golf Tournament and Outing for the Benefit of Crimestoppers of Dauphin County

June 30, 2008 11:30 AM - 8:00 PM - Last year, the annual golf tournament raised $5,000 for Crime Stoppers of Dauphin County. This year, the Carsonville Classic will kick off with lunch at 11:30 a.m. and shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Social hour will start at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Dinner only is $45. The play format wil be four-man, scramble-flighted. Players entering as single, twosome, threesome, will be paired into foursome prior to play by the Committee. The golf fee is $100, which includes lunch, dinner, entertainment, golf shirt, and golf fees and prizes. The deadline to register and receive a golf shirt is June 15, 2008. Operation SOS (Support Our Soldiers)

To provide items for PA National Guard and Reserve Troops deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, Operation SOS is collecting donations to go directly to benefit the troops. A website, www.operationSOS.org, has been created to make donations and to find out about the units that have been adopted.
On August 16, Operation SOS will hold a ride starting at the Susquehanna Valley Harley-Davidon, continue through Dauphin, Schuylkill adn Lebanon Counties and end at Fort Indiantown Gap. Please register for the ride through the website.
