Earth Day Clean-up at Wildwood
8216PARPREarth Day Clean-up at WildwoodHARRISBURG - (April 6, 2007) - To mark Earth Day, Wildwood Lake Sanctuary needs the help of volunteers and local residents on Mon., April 16 for the Great Pennsylvania Clean-up. As birds return from wintering grounds and amphibians and reptiles emerge from winter dormancy, Earth Day is a great opportunity to give something back to a park that many residents use on a regular basis.

Jobs for volunteers of all ages and ability levels will be available. A team of volunteers in canoes will check the lake and canal for tires and trash, while volunteers in hip boots will clean up streams. On foot, volunteers will cover the trails and borders of the park.

This event, in conjunction with PennDOT's Great Pennsylvania Cleanup Day, will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 1 p.m. Lunch will be included. The Dauphin County Parks and Recreation Department will provide a limited number of canoes, paddles, life jackets and hip boots. Gloves and safety vests will be available for all participants.

There is no cost to participate in the clean-up, but pre-registration is required. To register or for further information about this and other programs, call the Olewine Nature Center at 221-0292.

The Olewine Nature Center is located at Wildwood Lake Sanctuary in Harrisburg at 100 Wildwood Way. Wildwood Lake Sanctuary is located on Industrial Road, one-half-mile north of the Harrisburg Area Community College campus. The center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, and admission is free. For more information about the Olewine Nature Center and Wildwood Lake Sanctuary, please call 221-0292.
